EnergyPier IN VALAIS – FINALLY, THE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL
For the record, the “EnergyPier” project in Fully on the A9, the “solar motorway”, got off to an “official” start in early 2011 with a meeting between its developer and the then director of the Federal Roads Office (OFROU).
As an aside, on 30 September 2011, Christophe Darbellay tabled a bill aimed at utilising (among other things) the already developed land represented by motorways in order to deploy 100% renewable energy power stations there.
After incredible and unreasonable efforts, sustained by a fantastic team committed to this vision of providing 100% renewable and affordable electricity to as many people as possible, finally, on Monday 9 October 2023 at around 3.00 pm, the proposal was submitted to the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) for final review, it will be put out for public consultation once approved, and construction could begin in September 2024 – 13 years later… if all goes well…

There is just one unknown at this stage: several enquiries from abroad are currently being processed, and we’ll have to work flat out to ensure the world premiere stays in Fully.Alain Farrugia
